2011 Wedding Highlights Countdown!

With 2011 coming to a close, I would like to thank each and every one of my fabulous couples this year. I am a Wedding & Event Planner based in Kelowna, British Columbia and absolutely delight in working with my Okanagan Destination clients and local brides. You make each year so very special to me. Getting to know each of you as well as the pleasure of sharing in your wedding day celebrations brings such joy to my heart. Wishing you all much joy, love, health and prosperity for the new year! May your love continue to grow.

2011 was an unprecedented year in weddings. I don't know how many of you caught Randy Fenoli, Director of New York's "Kleinfelds Bridal Salon", and his TV show on the top 10 Weddings of 2011. Here is a countdown of the most opulent, outragious, over the top weddings, from Randy. From the pomp and circumstance of royal matrimony to glitz and glamour of reality romance, 2011 saw it all. It was absolutely a year of Romance.

Here we go......starting the countdown!

In 10th place- Shania Twain & Frederic Thiebaud
(Love Reborn)
Here is a couple that turned heartbreak into happiness. An incredible love story, born out of emotional hardships. They had a very private affair, not typical for such a high profile celebrity, with only 40 of their closest friends. Shania wed Swiss Businessman Frederic on a beach in Puerto Rico. A true love that blossomed from a precious friendship!

In 9th place - Lee Ann Rimes & Eddie Cibrian
(Surprise Nuptials)
A controversial couple, both well known actors who lived through tabloid madness. What a romantic couple. They surprised their guests who thought they were attending an Engagement party, but when Lee Ann went to change into her wedding gown, they realized they had been called to share in their actual wedding celebrations. They bucked tradition, with surprise nuptials overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Lee Ann wears 3 rings (one for Eddie and the other two representing each of his children). Now that tugs at your heart strings, doesn't it.

In 8th place - Miranda Lambert & Blake Shelton
(Bouquet Bling)
One would expect nothing less from 2 country musicians than a Country wedding, down-home, old fashioned and laid back country charm. As a good luck charm, Lee Ann donned a vintage gown worn by her mom 33 years before. The bride herself, shot the Venison that was served at the reception. Her "Brooch Bouquet" was made up of every piece of jewelry that was given to her by friends and family at her bridal shower. Charm, comfort and down home love for this couple.

In 7th place - Sherri Shepherd & Lamar Sally
(Bridal Drama and Zaniness)
Sherri found Lamar through an introduction by her best friend. Actress and comedienne marries television writer. As a spiritual gesture of unity to one another they had been celibate for 11 months before the wedding." So to help "get the car revved back up," her pals told her to be sexy on her wedding day and go commando. She even "got vajazzled" for the big day. The day had several surprises, such as her no-underwear moment and her Bridezilla moment during the dance rehearsals. Never dull times with this bubbly personality. Fun and bling as was evident from her sky-high sparkling shoes. However in all seriousness it was a fabulous wedding.

In 6th place - Niecy Nash & Jay Tucker
(Glam Luxe)
2nd time around Niecy (American Comedian Actress) fell in love with Jay, an Electrical Engineer and went through every brides trials and tribulations in the planning of a wedding. This union also meant the blending of two families as well. Married at a vineyard in Malibu, it was all glam and luxe. For the bride's "something blue" - she wore killer peep-toe slingback shoes adorned with stunning cerulean Swarovski cystals.

In 5th place - Reese Witherspoon & Jim Toth
(Blushing Bride)
From Legally Blonde to legally married, this 2nd time round affair was a Fairy tale come true. Again unusual for celebrities, this couple wed in an intimate home ceremony, surrounded by just their closest friends and family. Guests mingled in a tent decked with chandeliers fashioned from reclaimed wood and hundreds of jars with twinkling candles inside. The kids were included in everything. Fond of everything pink, the bride wore a blush hued Monique Lhullier designed gown. Truly a quiet, relaxing, soulful wedding, a fairy tale family affair.

In 4th place - Vanessa Minnillo & Nick Lachey
(Timeless Romance)
This couple's romance was ignited while working on a music video together. Both grounded and down to earth, they too shared the wedding planning journey with the world, as cameras documented their road to the big day. They chose a very intimate (35 guests), fantasy location,
of a private Virgin Island retreat for their celebrations. Capped off with a breathtaking fireworks display. Timeless romance at it's best.

In 3rd place - Bella Swan & Edward Cullen's make-believe wedding
(Movie Magic)
This was a movie wedding with a twist. The world waited for the joining of these two in the movie "Twilight-Breaking Dawn, Pt 1", yet this couple truly are in love in real life. There was even rumor that they may be married too. The Duchess of Cambridge's wedding gown wasn't alone in causing widespread anticipation this year. In fact, Bella Swan - the fictional star of the Twilight movie series ran her a close second as fans of the money-spinning franchise clamoured for information about the design of her dress. Cast and crew took ample measures to ensure that nothing was leaked during filming using swathes of tarpaulin and armed police, however stills of the couple consummating their marriage were posted on-line. Poetic romance at it's best.

In 2nd place - Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries
(Drama and Decadence)
Everything about this couples wedding was on a grand scale. They were considered almost royalty of the USA. This was one of those "over the top" weddings, and unfortunately not to last. This was to be the "Titanic of Weddings", with her 20.5 Kt. engagment ring, $10 million dollars in jewelry, 25,000 roses, 10 tier-$20,000 wedding cake and 3 custom designed Vera Wang dresses and massive media consumption, all going up in smoke as this Fairy tale wedding turned into a pumpkin just 78 days after the nuptials. Sad, but sometimes living life isn't as easy as we think, especially for celebrity couples.

In TOP place - Catherine Middelton & Prince William
(Happily Ever After)
This wedding brought out the romantic in all of us. The world was spellbound in anticipation of this regal event. This stately affair was full of pomp and ceremonial aspects, yet this modern, mature couple took it all in stride and were at home and comfortable with all the formalities. The world was not disappointed, viewing this absolutely Regal Affair. The exuberance of the nation was shared by the world. This couples "something blue" was the surprise car in which they appeared and drove around Buckingham Palace as thousands cheered them on. Of course Kate's understatedly elegant gown has set a trend for bridal dresses on so many bridal aisles for 2012.

Happy Planning Everyone!
